Join one of Australia's leading master production potters, Malcolm Greenwood, as he generously hands down the techniques learned from Japanese mentor Makoto Yabe and follow the journey of paving his own way to making a living entirely from selling his work.

This immersion course is for anyone with a serious commitment to making a living from ceramics.  It will change your practice forever.

Over four full days of both demonstration and hands on practice, you will learn:

- Production throwing & trimming for efficiency and consistency
- Japanese method of throwing with minimal water and off the hump
- How to make your own tools (wooden ribs, trimming tools, tonbos, etc.)
- Slab rolling without a slab roller
- Press moulding
- Spiral wedging
- Plus in-depth discussions on developing efficiency, flow & tempo of your studio, glazing and how to make a living from your work

    The program includes:

    - Five days of tuition (approx 9am - 5pm)

    - 'Dinner in Conversation' event with presentation and local guest chefs

    - Welcome kit

    - Materials for making your own tools

    - Clay for throwing practice

    - Morning & afternoon refreshments

      Prerequisites
      This is an advanced learning experience. For participants to get the most out of the investment, a minimum of 2 years of ceramic experience and a reasonable level of throwing competency is required.

        
      About Malcolm Greenwood
      Malcolm Greenwood is a ceramic artist who creates handmade pieces for leading international restaurants and galleries.  Much of Malcolm’s time is now dedicated to producing custom designed and made tableware to hotels, restaurants and cafes throughout Australia, including Quay, Southern Ocean Lodge, Longitude 131, Capella Lodge, Park Hyatt Hotel, The Bentley Restaurant and Bar, Monopole, Yellow, Masuya Group, Single Origin Roasters, Patricia’s Coffee Brewers, Aqua Dining, Ormeggio, Bennelong, Bathers Pavilion, Nomad, Firedoor, Rengaya and Artemis (Singapore). Malcolm Greenwood’s work has been featured in most of Australia’s leading design and style magazines, food magazines and in the books of several of Australia’s leading chefs.

      Leia from GRIT is teaming up with friend/potter/artist Jo Norton (aka Thrown By Jo).  Combining their events experience and enthusiasm, the duo will be curating a unique, professional and fun experience for all students, in one of the best arts hubs in the country.
